What season of life do you find yourselves in today? Are you a parent
with young children, an empty-nester or somewhere in between? Are
you longing for a child but God has not answered that prayer? Are you
single and want to be married, married and want to be single? In good
health (emotionally/mentally/physically and spiritually) or are you hurting
in any one of these areas? Are you waiting for God to answer a prayer it
seems you’ve prayed for forever? Are you waiting for God in the eye of
the storm or are you enjoying seeing His faithfulness in an area you
have wrestled through with Him for many seasons?
At any given season of our lives, there are things we desire, things that
our hearts desperately long and strive for. These desires are not
ungodly; it’s what we do with them that so often leads us away from
God’s path.
We can make plans, we can dream. God longs to give us the desires of
our hearts, but our hearts must first and foremost long for and seek Him
above ALL else.
Proverbs 19:21 says: Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is
the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
In this verse I find a Father who loves us. At first glance it may seem
harsh as if He is saying to us, “Go ahead and do what you wish, My
plans will prevail” But as I remember all of the attributes of my Lord and
Savior, His character, His love for me; I find that this verse is filled with
protection, His sovereign hand in my life, His love towards me.
We can make plans, we can dream, but we need to do this in the context
of holding it all loosely before the Lord. As believers, we have given Him
total control of our lives. Because He created us, made us each
individually, He knows us through and through and better than we know
ourselves. Remember, that He also made us with a purpose in mind, to
do good works, which He prepared for us beforehand (Eph 2:10) Those
are the paths He desires for us to walk in.
Are your hearts desires and dreams not coming together like you would
like them to? Trust Him today with your heart, with your dreams, with
your very lives. Give everything to Him alone, and watch miracles and
blessings swirl around your life every single day. Through plenty and
want, through sweet times and hard His plans are always the best. This
does not guarantee that life will be easy. So often, in this sin filled world,
things are “heartbreakingly, I can barely breathe” hard.
I have had those times in my life and honestly, there are a few prayer
requests that I roll over each year in my prayer journal because I have
not been given an answer to a couple of requests that God chooses to
stay silent on. It hurts, it can be confusing, and I continue to cry out to
Him for answers. On the other hand, I also have an abundance of
prayers that He has been so incredibly faithful to answer, to pour out His
goodness and has blessed me in the desires of my heart.
Habakkuk 3:17-19 says: Though the fig tree should not blossom, or fruit
be on the vines, the produce of the fields yield no food, the flock be cut
off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the
Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. God, the Lord, is my
strength; He makes my feet like the deer’s; He makes me tread on my high places.”
I want to be like Habakkuk and like Paul who says: “…. I have learned in
whatever situation I am to be content…. for I can do all things through
Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:11-13
May you find peace and contentment even in, especially in, the hard
places of your lives today.
